In the army, we had to sign in and out of the battalion office via pen and paper daily. During the COVID-19 lockdown in the middle of 2020, my friend Eswaran and I decided to use our spare time to automate this process with an RFID-based system to replace the old pen and paper method. The scanner runs on an Arduino Uno encased in a 3D printed shell. It functions by scanning our already existing camp pass used to enter the camp itself, and saves the user’s information into a log file.
This system was eventually deployed in the 9SIG office towards the end of 2020.
